The Cornwall Insurance Company had the front of their premises gaily decorated with ever greens, flowers and flags, and displayed a trans- parency in the evening. The Portuguese Consul, besides his national flag, displayed a very pretty crown and stars in gas. Flags in- numerable decorated the fronts of the buildings and in the evening transparencies and gas devices were illuminated in great variety. The majority of the premises in this part of the street are merchants' stores and offices and viewed from the Collins street corner, the scene was a brilliant and a gay one. Profiting doubtless by the munificent example displayed by the Union Bank, the inhabitants of Queen street south especially exerted themselves to produce something worthy of the joyful event they celebrated.
